Mclays win valuable contract from Dumfries
& Galloway

JUNE 2003

Mclays Supplies Limited are delighted to announce the recent gaining of a significant contract with Dumfries & Galloway Council. It is one of the biggest single orders ever tendered for by the company and is a milestone in the development of Mclays' business in Scotland.

Paid for by funding available to the Council from the Scottish Executive, the ordering of the new play equipment is good news for children in three areas - Wigtown, Stewartry and Nithsdale.

The specification was not the easiest to handle, since it involved replacement of old equipment in some cases and enhancement of play areas in others. The requirements of a multitude of playgrounds ranged from a single spring mobile to a complete multiplay unit. Environments varied from urban locations to the tiniest of villages such as Sandhead and Kirkcolm near Stranraer.

As a subsidiary of Wicksteed Leisure Limited, Glasgow-based Mclays offers its Scottish customers the widest range of equipment available from one source in the UK. The breadth, therefore, of the Council's play equipment and fencing requirements was easy to meet from Wicksteed's range.

Among the items selected were some very innovative see-saws, an exciting new roundabout called 'Speedway', the 'Hang Glider' and Modular multiplay units that have climbing walls and activity panels.

Low maintenance costs and a tight deadline on installation were requirements of the tender and the 25 year structural guarantee offered through Mclays by Wicksteed was a significant factor in the submission.

Scott MacKinnon, Mclays' Area Sales Manager for the West Coast of Scotland and the Highlands said, "I believe the Council were particularly impressed by the fact they would be getting a local service from Mclays, backed up by the strength and experience of Wicksteed Leisure. In upgrading so many different play areas scattered throughout the county, our flexibility was also a factor. Where standard units did not quite fit the bill, we were able to take advantage of the modular design of Wicksteed ranges of multiplay equipment and tailor each installation to local requirements."

For budgeting reasons, the whole installation process has to be completed within 6 months - quite a tall order for getting hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of equipment in place across a wide area. However, by working closely together with Wicksteed and the Dumfries & Galloway Council, Mclays are confident that the schedule of works will be adhered to.

"The Council were already an existing customer of ours," added Scott, "but we are especially grateful they selected Mclays to fulfil this particularly ambitious programme for them."

REQUIREMENTS RANGED FROM A SINGLE SPRING MOBILE TO AN ENTIRE EUROPA MULTIPLAY UNIT.

Mclays Supplies Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wicksteed Leisure Limited.
