Safety Surfacing | Wicksteed Continuous Safety Surface

Wicksteed Continuous Safety Surface

Wicksteed Continuous Surface has been tested in accordance with and certified to BS EN 1177:1998 and
BS 7188:1998.

Wicksteed Continuous Safety Surface is suitable for all installations where safety surfacing is a requirement, up to the appropriate Maximum Free Fall Height (see chart). It can be used around complex configurations of playground equipment and ground contours.

Wicksteed Continuous Safety Surface is slip-resistant and non-abrasive to young limbs. It is porous so that puddles, which can create slippery conditions in the winter, do not form.

The versatility of our Continuous Safety Surface in terms of colourful graphics is as unlimited as your imagination and we can also help you continue your chosen theme by adding images to the surrounding tarmac – see examples on page 110 within our Tot Spot section.

Bases
Our Continuous Safety Surface is designed to be laid onto the following bases -

  • Up to 12mm stone no-fines concrete or open-textured bitmac
  • MOT Type 1 stone (surfaces with a thickness of 50mm or more)
  • Existing asphalt or concrete in good condition
  • Other existing surfaces/bases, subject to preparation in accordance with Wicksteed's specific recommendations

Materials
Wicksteed Continuous Safety Surface is of bonded rubber, mixed on site using special equipment and laid to exacting standards. The base layer is of SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) and the top layer can be either SBR or EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Di Monomer), which is available in a range of permanent colours

Maintenance
The finished surface is virtually maintenance-free, needing nothing more than the minimum attention you would give to any synthetic surface. In the event of localised, accidental damage or vandalism, a Wicksteed Continuous Surface Repair Kit is available.

Guarantee
Wicksteed Continuous Safety Surfacing has a 5-year guarantee, excluding normal wear and tear, accidental damage and the result of vandalism.

Colours and graphics
Colours available are red, blue, green, beige, yellow, purple, eggshell, brown and black. A flecked pattern can be achieved by mixing colours.

Attractive graphics and games can be designed into the surface to add to the play value of the playground and to complement individual themes.

Technical information and installation
For technical information relating to base preparation, care and maintenance, etc., please ask for our separate Safety Surfacing Technical Information and Installation Guidelines.
